Profile of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences
      Humanities and social sciences are about the knowledge and value of human life. The sciences take an irreplaceable role in conveying human thoughts, guiding life-value orientation, shaping personality, understanding human life, and promoting social civilization and advancement. The School of Humanities and Social sciences of North University of China brings a fresh air to the technology-oriented sciences in the university.
      The School of Humanities and Social Sciences consists of 4 departments: the department of law, the department of foreign languages, the department of journalism and communication, and the department of politics and administrative management. It has a body of talented faculty members, rich storage of magazines and reference books, and well-equipped teaching facilities. Of its 206 faculty members, more than 20 are professors and associate professors, over 40 are lectures and engineers, and 4 are Ph.D. holders. On the basis of free academic communication, the School conducts academic activities and promotes academic creation. During the Tenth Five-year-plan period, over 40 faculty members have been sent to national or international academic conferences; over 200 academic papers as well as 10 academic books have been published. The researches in translation theories and in ideological and political education have a high reputation in the national-wide research circle. Research teams with specific research interests have so far been formed in ideological and political education, English language and literature, legal science, and mass media broadcasting and communication.
      The School has two libraries with over 50,000 volumes in foreign languages, legal sciences, administrative management, and mass media broadcasting and communication; the School has a multimedia classroom, a multi-function phonetic lab, a mood court, a criminal evidence lab, and an electronic administrative management laboratory. The School has set up several bases outside the campus for experiment and practicing.
      The School offers postgraduate programs in ideological and political education, and in English language and literature. The School also offers undergraduate programs in English, law, politics and administrative management, and mass media broadcasting and communication. The School has so far a student body of 1200. Zhang Sijie serves as the Dean of the school (0351-3924849); Duan Yiquan serves as the CPC Secretary (0351-3922171) of the school, and Gao Xiang as the Head of the General Office (0351-3921649) of the school.
